Hey Family, Just thought I'd share my story. Made it long to give it some excitement :)
I found about Al's show at the Pearl THE DAY BEFORE, via Facebook. Whew, that's a short amount of time to get yourself together to see your Boo, LOL!
Anyway, the morning of the show I informed hubby so that he would be home from work in time, got myself together (I think) and went to the Pearl that evening by myself--most of my friends who would go live in another state and I didn't want to take just anybody or have anybody affecting my schedule and/or steelo. I was on mission 22 years in the making! :)
I got there, sat by myself, ate by myself and was getting sleepy (Shows you how lame I am, I sooo am not on the party scene anymore. It was getting way past this mom of three's bedtime) but finally, finally AL B. WAS IN THE HOUSE! I was super close to the front, and I was kinda annoyed with the drunk youngins who didn't really know AL (I wanted them to move so us die hard honey b's could touch our man!) but they didn't deter me from enjoying myself and taking pics on zoom of Al B.!
The show was fun, he sounded good, and after it was over it seemed that most everyoone broke out. I went and sat down, then I thought to myself, "GIRL, YOU BEEN WAITING 22 YEARS! YOU CAME HERE ON A MISSION TO MEET AL B! MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN, NOW!"
I went over to the security man and asked if Al would sign my cd. Earlier, I had already spoken to the club photographer and told him I would buy one of his pics if he took one of me and Al B. I asked the waiter for a sharpie marker for the cd signing. I was working all angles! The security man told me to sit down and a wait until Al B. came back out, but the photographer peeped that it looked like Al wasn't going to stay at the club afterall, that they were packing stuff up and getting ready to go. So after waiting for only about 20 min the photographer tapped me and said "come on". Family, he opened the door and AL B. said "Come on in." INSERT SCREAMING RIGHT HERE! I remained calm, but I was crazy inside. As you will see, he looks serious in the picture, but he smiled and joked the whole time. He really got a kick out me telling him that I go all the way back to '88 and that my "In Effect Mode" album is on cassette. He signed my "Honey I'm Home" cd cover and we took two pics. One with my camera and one from the club photographer, just as I promised him.
I just want to let the ABS fans know it is worth it to support him. Everything we think he is--gracious, gorgeous, charming, polite, personable, cool, humble, etc. etc.--he is. I told him that and he just smiled and said, "That's my mama's fault--that's how she raised me." Mama Brown did a great job and I'm still smiling from my experience.
Toni, keep on doing what you're doing for AL B. and the fans, love you girl!
Peace, love and God's blessings family,
Kim
